The Copyright Wars

Federal Felonies and Free Wiretapping!

"The White House today proposed sweeping revisions to U.S. copyright law, including making "illegal streaming" of audio or video a federal felony and allowing FBI agents to wiretap suspected infringers without a warrant under the terms of the Patriot Act."

Now, I see and feel the pain of people trying to protect thier intellecutal property rights in this day and age but...

WOW! A federal felony! According to the US Governemnt downloading or transmitting music or video illegally is on par with Murder, Rape, Robbery, Treason, and other crimes of that nature? Drunk driving is a middemeanor, and I can KILL someone doing that!

I thought that bugging a vehicle in a private yard without a warrant was pretty far fetched when it came about last year, but wiretapping a person suspected of copyright infringement without a warrant? That's an amazing violation of personal privacy! Why worry about what someone can see on Facebook or find out about you on Google when Uncle Sam can own your computer at any time without due process of law?

Ironically, the last line of the article made me laugh a bit...money talks doesn't it?

"No less than 78 percent of political contributions from Hollywood went to Democrats in 2008, which is broadly consistent with the trend for the last two decades, according to OpenSecrets.org."
