    Hey folks,

     

    These last 9 months have seen me playing a bit less online for a reason.  I have been doing alot of stuff related to my position at work, and I have been playing this Legends system I am introducing to you folks.  Some of you will not even be interested as this system is not for instant gratification folks.  Should you read more, I am sure you will understand.  I just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone might be interested.  One other thing about this game, is you pay to play.  There are not any free time or demo's.  I have a blast getting my turns back and deciding who I can and who I can not mess with.  There is usually ALWAYS someone bigger than you during a game.  Friends can literally pull you out of the fire, while and enemy can crush you just the same.  Careful who you upset.  :)  Give me a shout if you want to know more.  Below is the the website and some explanations about the game.  Lastly if you decide to get in on some of this, please give a shout so I can make some suggestions.

    The WHAT:

    Legends is a multi-player, turn-based strategy game moderated by computer, where up to 200 players compete or work together to achieve victory.

     

    Or, to put it another way...

     

    Imagine an internet game where you had hundreds of opponents, and where you had time to pause for thought and really plan your next series of moves.  Imagine receiving all the emails you could ever want from your allies and enemies discussing tactics, offering strategies, negotiating deals, and threatening retribution.  Imagine that this game has a flavor and history equaled only by your favorite book or role-playing game.  That's Legends.

     

    The HOW:

    It works a little something like this...

     

    You purchase a 'start-up' in a game of one of our Legends worlds (also known as modules).  At regular intervals - usually fortnightly, but sometimes more or less frequently, depending on the game - we send you a turn file by email. Using the Legends Position Editor (LPE for short), you open the file, which gives you a detailed report of your position, and what you have succeeded (or failed) in doing.  You then read your report, speak with your allies, and decide what you wish to do next. Then, again using LPE, write your orders (what you want the different forces, characters and armies in your position to do). These you then send back to Harlequin.  On the day your turn is due to be processed, we take your orders and feed them into our computers. They are then processed, and the results sent back out to you, starting the process all over again.

    All right, so you know what Legends is. But what is there for you to do?

     

    Well, the world is literally yours for the taking. Each Legends world is huge, with lands to explore, people to meet, and monsters to encounter. There are cities with guilds, marketplaces, shops and taverns. There are lairs, ruins, fortresses, armies, and even other realms. In short there is a complete world to be explored, and how you do this is up to you.  Many players are content simply to explore the world, learning its secrets and legends, gaining renown as warriors, priests, mages or even politicians. But Legends is a game which can also be won, and this victory can be sought either alone or with team-mates. Each module has its own unique ways of achieving victory, and these are detailed in the modules themselves.

     

    There are four main types of position, each of which has its own advantages, and each of which offering a different starting point from which to explore the world of Legends.

     

    The Lone Hero

    You can wander the world alone, smiting monsters and doing good. Or, if the mood takes you, smiting heroes and doing ill.

     

    The Adventurers

    Or you can take control of a group of adventurers, giving you more variety and possibilities, though none are as strong as a hero.

     

    The Mercenaries

    Perhaps, not content just to roam the land, you may wish to begin with a small castle, and army with which to make your mark upon the world.

     

    The Overlord

    Or you can take on the mantle of an overlord, seeking to increase your influence and power.(Large castle with surrounding lands, along with more population and troops.)

     

    And whichever position you decide to play, your characters can be of any of hundreds of races and professions, from goblin to titan, priest to assassin. Each module has its own specific races and peoples.

    Legends - What Is It?

    Legends is possibly the most in-depth fantasy game on the market today, combining powerful game mechanics with vibrant and original game worlds.

     

    The Legends game system is rich in both complexity and potential, allowing thousands of different stratagems and options, so that one can play for years and only begin to scratch the surface of the possible. The various modules each offer an entirely new world to be explored and conquered, all with their own unique races, monsters, histories and politics.

     

    Explore on your own, or work as part of a larger faction. Roam the land as dragon-slayer, hero or sword for hire; lead a group of mercenaries or clan of orcs; command cities, armies, fleets. Rise to power through the use of steel, magic, politics, or perhaps a little of each. The worlds of Legends await you; what you do in them is down to you.

     

    You can control up to 40 individual characters who have a variety of statistics, skills, titles and possessions. You can also control a similar number of armies, cities, markets and guilds, if you like a busy game. Alternatively you can enjoy the simplicity of playing a hero and sidekick - making history in the lands owned by the Overlord players.

     

    All 50-100 players can compete individually, or ally into factions that attempt to achieve wildly varying victory conditions. Also you can set and seek to achieve your own goals, such as winning the Knight Championships three times in a row or developing your city to house the greatest market in the world. Or maybe you will simply be content to explore the incredibly detailed module in which you are playing, hunting out secret missions and fulfilling obscure prophecies.

     

    We are also proud to present LPE, a computer software package for the game. This not only allows you to easily enter orders and view turns, but also create and maintain databases of everything you discover, map the land, and exchange information with team members.     Types of Setups (Starting Positions)

    There are at least four different styles of game you can enjoy in Legends depending on your start-up choice. They are detailed below, and it is worth noting that Legends is designed to weight equal significance to players who are on a limited budget and choose a Hero position (which rarely costs more than minimum turn cost), as those who play the expansive Overlord position. Thus you cannot buy your way to victory...

     

    Hero Setup

    Heroes are the most powerful player characters to stride the face of the Legends worlds. If you want to be a Conan or a Gandalf, this is the set-up choice for you. With no responsibilities for running towns and economies, the Hero is free to persue whatever takes his/her fancy, often selling their unique services to the highest bidder.

     

    Adventurer Setup

    Whilst the Hero excels in their own narrow field of expertise (Combat, Magic, etc.), being in control of an Adventuring party which consists of six characters (one main and five secondary characters) gives enough breadth to the abilities and skills that your position possesses, so that you can competently turn your hand to any task. Some modules even allow the new Clan setup with a total of eight starting characters.

     

    Mercenary Setup

    The Mercenary starts with a small castle populated by denziens of the same race as your main character, three secondary characters and a complement of above average soldiers. For the best starting mix of a wise general and veteran soldiers at game start, this can be the position of choice.

     

    Overlord Setup

    The Overlord position has the "weakest" of all starting main characters. However, to make up for this he has five secondary characters, a large population in his fortified castle, and a goodly sized complement of militia soldiers. From the start, then, you have an economy to run, and often form a base for Heros that would like to build guilds in your town or fight in your army.

     

    How much does it cost?

    To start up in Legends costs ?5.

    After that, turns cost 7p/order (minimum ?3.70, maximum ?10.).

    This is one of my "turns".  We lose some of the formatting when copying data to the forums.  However you can check out a bit of the system.  FYI, this particular module is a beefed up game.  Just started it and already there is some encroachment on our territory by another faction, and Kings Peace(no player attacks until after KP) hasn't ended yet.  Since they are trying to take our lairs(items and equipment collected by monsters), we will have to retaliate after KP.  An Assassin like myself is going to be very busy early on.  This turn also shows where I identified some items using a spell to do so and a battle with a Storm Giant.(I was a bit buff for him, in a couple of turns, I am headed towards a Ruins, that have several monsters in it and some include dragons.(Not sure I will live thru that tho. :) )

    I'm your GM - my name is Ed. If you're a new player then I hope to get

    to know you well soon - I am always here to talk to about the game.

     

    Here is a list of protocols and things to know.

     

    If you contact me make sure you use your game and main character ID to

    help me identify you. This goes for email; paper notes or the phone.

    You will have received a permanent account number. Quote this only in

    financial queries.

     

    Let me just repeat that. Please put for example I5p001 on *ALL*

    correspondence with me. If you phone up mention the game and ID as soon

    as seems polite...

     

    LPE has a section where you can write notes to the GM. Please avoid using it.

    Always try to use a separate piece of paper or separate email so your

    request doesn't get caught up with the turn.

     

    We don't work weekends but we do work every public holiday except Christmas

    and the day after. We work on Thanksgiving.

     

    If something happens in the game which seems inappropriate please get in

    touch. You may be rewarded if you ferret out a mistake and it is better

    for the game if you don't try to exploit a potential loophole.

     

    If you have a reason for getting in touch and then think 'Oh no. I don't

    want to bother Ed.' then think twice and contact me after all. I don't

    mind dealing with your issues - no matter if they turn out to be

    important or trivial.

     

    The Notes from the Home Office cannot be written using commas. Don't ask

    why. Merely forgive my enforced bad grammar.

    This looks very interesting...

     

    Do you have to command armies? If, so, are they capped to be relatively small?

     

    I'm perfectly happy with a "medium" sized band of soldiers/party members that I can train... but having to do armies just makes me feel less... Epic. :)

    So what does that typically translate to? 5 then 3.70-10 dollars a fort night depending on your involvement?
