There will be a server update beginning on Tuesday 17.04.2012 20:00 (GMT+2).

How long the server will be off can't be said for sure. Be prepared for about 2-4h downtime. There will be a complete re-install of the OS and all associated tools. We will upgrade to Windows 7 64 Bit (from XP 32 bit) and will then be able to fully utilize our 8GB RAM. This will help the database performance a lot.

Short version is increased performance on server side lag!

I am also hoping that it means a little more stability for US players, where a few extra database cycles can mean the difference between timeout/LD!!!!!

Agreed. In fact you seem to be on to something since the game server and web server (I am going to assume the same host) are both down!

Anyone heard anything elsewhere?

I thought the 2-4 hour estimate was a little on the conservative side. We're at like 6 hours in now and it's still down. I'm not sure what kind of software he has to re-install, but I wonder if has the 64bit versions or if he's having to re-download all of them.

I would like to believe that this was a staged event. And that not only himself, but the server host already had all the necessary components, 64 bit versions / conversion tools/ etc., in the wings when it first went down.

I am really only upset that there is no medium at all to receive updates since they dual host the website apparently. Mofos need to get a twitter account or some Jeepers thing...
