The game has been in development since before DayZ was, and it looks like we could see a release by the end of this year.
It says MMO, but the game is single purchase. It looks like they will be renting out servers to the players (or play on their open/free ones), as well as a transaction shop. At this point they tell us anything you can buy in the store can be found in the game world.
No clue if this is limited use items like weapons with durability/life and must be repaired... or if it is gear/items you lose on death.
Expansions are expected to be free, and the game overall is supposed to be a sandbox. No quests, just a world full of zombies where you have to survive with other players.

On Monday, zombie survival shooter-MMO The War Z became available on Steam as a “Foundation Release.” The same day, complaints began to arise that the game’s page in the Steam store misrepresented and exaggerated its content by mentioning features that weren’t yet integrated. This morning, Valve took the game off sale, admitting that a mistake was made in “prematurely” making The War Z available for purchase. Valve has extended an invitation to refund purchases through Steam Support, an exception to Valve’s usually-rigid refund rules. Those who bought the game through Steam are still able to play it, and The War Z remains for sale on its website.
Following these events, I contacted executive producer Sergey Titov via email to ask about The War Z’s troubled release on Steam, if he agrees with Valve’s decision to take the game off sale, and what he expects the game’s immediate future to be.
Sergey’s comments are presented unedited and as they were provided to us from The War Z PR.

I have had no problems with WarZ and I have been playing it since it started alpha. The devs update the game regularly and communicate with the community well on the forums. Sorry its not for you but there are hundreds of thousands of players that do like it including me. A lot better than DayZ tbh.I knew it was bad from the start, I still would NEVER buy a game with dev's like that, never seen anything like that. Don't think EA would even sink that low =P

Not even the 8 limb'd baby has enough hands to facepalm with.
The entire game is nothing but copied content that's been tweaked just a tiny bit. Logos from the walking dead, the game itself from war inc, and as i said above, they dont even care to make their own terms of service!
They are just scamming you and imma laugh so hard when they get sue'd SO HARD.
There is just video after video with this kind of stuff, i feel so bad for the suckers that bought this and expect it to become an actual game, also, if you want a refund, you'll have to either sue, or tell the bank NOT to give them their cash, which is probably too late anyways cause they wont allow refunds which is probably illegal since they have false advertisement written all over and wouldn't stand in court.
