After quite a bit of research, I finally have a working draft for my "FFFXIV Beginner's Guide".  You can find it listed in our Tutorials section at:  http://www.covenantofthephoenix.com/forums/tutorials/article/141-ffxiv-beginners-guide/

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments regarding the guide.  I will continue to add more content to it this week, but I wanted to at least get this much of it posted for review. :drinks: There was a lot of information out there that I tried to confirm with the official sources whenever possible.  It's worth a look even if you aren't a new player in FFXIV, as there was a lot of information out there that I didn't know about before I read it. ;)

Looking good so far.  But this brings me to a few questions that are not mentioned in the guide.

Once you have a job, can you obtain another job?

Is there a slot on the armor sets for the "soul crystal"?  (did not notice)

yes you can do all of the Jobs(classes) on a single toon, and a mixture

at level 15 you would start to notice materia slots in armor, not sure where  to get them yet

Currently looking at a few more items for the guide.  Namely:

    • Combo points
    • Limit break system
    • Gear sets
    • Rest xp
    • Grand Company's
    • Hunting Logs
    • Macro's

Nothing concrete yet but still researching.

Made a few new additions and re-organized the sections to make the "walls of text" easier to look at. ;)  I am hoping to wrap up the remaining sections tomorrow.

Work has been a bit slow this week, so I took a few hours off this morning to knock out more sections of the guide.  The only sections left to do are:

    • Primals Information & Dungeons
    • Rested EXP
    • Combo Points & Limit Breaks

Sweet, I'll try and get that added to the Beginner's Guide.  I had to bug Throne this morning to raise the maximum number of images allowed in a Tutorial, but I think even the new maximum might not be enough to hold everything I've been adding to that guide. ;)

I'm trying to also add in the PDF file that Rouhet put together for crafting, because that thing is awesome too. :)

Although that pdf is more of a reference than "beginner guide" material, so you could always stick a "go here for more info" type of link!

Sounds like a plan to me.

    • Added link to Rouhet's Crafting Reference Sheet
    • Added Inn & Rested EXP section
    • Updated information for Job requirements (some classes have changed)
    • Updated information for Dungeons / Raids
    • Added Limit Break section
    • Corrected a few formatting issues
    • Added the game overview pic from EorzeaReborn.com

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and additions to the guide.  I think I finally have it to the point of "done for now", at least until more information is released about the housing and PVP systems.  Since those two topics do not have a lot of up-to-date testing that has been done, I want to wait until after launch to add that info.

In any case, the guide seems to be doing well.  It has gone from 200 views a day or two ago to over 2,100 when I last checked it.  :drinks:

Are you able to bring your harvesting tools with you and switch to them when you find a collection point?

Yes.  But more importantly unless you have the harvesting tool equipped you can not even see any nodes.

this is the one from the new lodestone website. If you're missing anything from here I would recommend adding it. Gonna give it a quick read through right now to see what it misses or doesn't explain well enough to improve the usefulness of our guide

Minor mistake under Part Four:  "For example, to become a "Black Mage", you have to be level 30 in Thaumaturge and level 15 in Arcanist."

You correctly mention Archer later on though.

Actually Materia is something I need to add to the guide yet. :)

In general, you can convert any item to materia if you have 100% soulbound with it.  That goes up simply be having the item equipped for a certain length of time.  As for adding the materia to an item, you are correct that it takes a crafting class to do so.  However, they are different for each type of item.  For example, it will take a blacksmith to add materia to DoW armor, but for DoM armor it takes a weaver.  Goldsmith to add materia to accessories, and so on...  Also, the higher the level that the materia is being added to = the higher the level needed of that craft to "meld" the materia.
