Ryptide
For the info that was given in the video, I don't see a downside to this. Sounds like a big company saw an upcoming company that had a lot of potential to make some serious coin and jumped on board. People / companies have been doing this for hundreds of years. Tessaya
I too am not that pessimistic about that move. After all, if FB wants to spam us with ads, it first has to make a great VR device then find a way to bring it to casual gamers. There would be little sense in ruining such a niche device (at that stage) for that price.
Ryptide
I don't use FB, have they screwed something up in past after investing in them? I would bet they won't make ads visible while using the device. No gamer would want that nor would any game developer. Maybe FB has ideas for some kind of future VR social media platform? Wild guess..
Tessaya
I don't use instagram but seems like people haven't seen any difference between before and after its acquisition by FB. -> no ads pop-ups

Bakath
I was able to use the Rift today and OMG it is the most amazing thing I have ever tried. I would not worry about FB buying Oculus as Mark was just excited by the tech and has a ton of cash to help make it come to life.
theJaeks
so the important question, did it make flying easier?
Ryptide
I've heard rumors about using VR for extended time periods causing eye strain. Were you able to use it for any length of time?

Tessaya
I've heard rumors about using VR for extended time periods causing eye strain. Were you able to use it for any length of time? From what I've understood, the way the oculus works makes our eyes focus at the perceived distance in the virtual reality instead of the distance of the monitor, so if the scaling is good it should be the same as in real life. What may cause eye strain may mostly be due to the imperfections of the actual simulations, but I would expect improvement on the software side.
