As far as I'm concerned the Idris was the biggest ship to pledge for before the game is released, but I was WRONG!!! ".... Already got an Idris-M, which has an excellent sensor suite and an integrated hangar on board. So far the Javelin has neither, just a landing pad. Plus you have to spend an enormous amount of game cash outfitting it, plus you can't pilot it effectively solo, plus, plus, plus. But the Idris being able to land on planets was stripped, CR said it also had to be multi-crewed by not only NPCs to be effective, so same negatives. Engine- and power-wise the Javelin seems to have an advantage, manouverability almost certainly being the achilles heel of the Javelin. I love those 360 degree gun turrets the size of a Constellation , but the designs we've seen so far are totally inadequate in comparison to the beautiful sketches for the Idris. On the other hand i can still sell my Idris-M, since its the only capital that can be gifted. So I will study the new design they'll certainly present on the 28th and probably try to get a Javelin. The Idris hunt was just ridiculous, everything sold out in mere seconds. How can that be if you dont have a sniping tool????? Just as the Carrack anounced at 345$, the Javelin definitely is far too expensive. So either way I'll be happy with getting a Javelin and selling the Idris-M later on (Firedancer, yes thats you) or happy to not have to spend that braindead amount of cash for a ship outfitted just with engines. Jeepers this is an expensive game, and I'm hooked enough to pay till my accounts dry up. Something is wrong here . I'm almost to frightened to ask what they will sell next. You raise some good points, and I think taking a Jav for a tour will be something so rare it's really not worth that much RL cash. Even if you bring NPCs (that you will have to pay) the number of people required to effectively fly one will surely be so huge we wouldn't have that much of other smaller ships to accompany the Jav (either by lack of people or technically by being forbidden to be a too big proportion of an instance's population), plus each sortie is a guaranteed waste of money (that's not to say such a sortie wouldn't have any use). Firedancer Posted November 27, 2014 Share Posted November 27, 2014 pshaw... just get recruiting Actually it won't be that much more than an idris though... keep in mind that most functions are similar: - captain - pilot, - navigator, - figher-pilots - gunners (ok, here you got a few more) - hangar crew - medics - marines - engineers & repair team (ok, here you maybe need a few more) but if you want to be fully battle ready, I guess overall the difference isn't that big. Minimum crew of 23, the existential number of actual players required of course omitted. Just 1 hangar bay, and its custom fitted for a Redeemer. No rescue/utility ship, but rescue pods for 80 people. Wow. 6 modular rooms, 12 modular component bays, with mention of science/cartography modules. "Battlehardened against the Vanduul", the Javs not only have to be outfitted but also repaired before being useful it seems. Class 5 ATA just like the Idris, but 13 of them. 2 x Class 7 STS compared to 2 x Class 5 STS on the Idris (Railgun + Laser Turret). 2 x Class 8 Reactors, whatever that means. The rest just like the Idris with infirmary, torpedo rooms, armoury, storage rooms (just a lot more), mess hall, crew quarters, brig. One big hunk of metal. A Sweetheart to outfit and crew effectively, since the player requirements are still unknown. Still "the smallest" of the UEE Cruisers. How the hell do you hold and use a bigger one? My verdict: if you already have an Idris, dont bother. But maybe some Idris-Ps will be melted down along the way? Those are much more interesting to buy! Nice symmetric design, less then half the crew required, and your own squad of Hornets with you at all times. Tomorrow we'll see how well the Javs do sell. Would have been a gigantic waste of money anyway, no solo play and all, increased wear and fuel costs, equiment not even included in the insurance! Sent a mail to subscriber service, maybe some dumb idiot got rid of his Idris-P and I get the chance to buy it (slim as it is). Would be nice to make good on that costly Idris-M buy. And, finally, lets not forget the Javs (contrary to the Idris-M, which is therefore any pirates wet dream) will be available in the final game to purchase with in game cash, so what you really need are cash cows, not money sinks. One example would be the Idris, another the Javelin. If you already joined the Star Citizen chapter and CotP you have access to the "Roll Call" thread inside the "StarCitizen Crew only" subforum on the forum starting page, there you can see the stat: Current total ships: 186 Current total empty seats: 294 Number of Players: 56 (so far) There is plenty of opportunity to experience the best ships out there without much investment risk and huge experience and cash reward It is as CR intended to design the game: Team up with your buddies to form a team better than most others out there, especially those flying solo with NPC support! All you need is the cheapest packet when the game comes out, you have the choice of 3! very different starter ships and you dont have to pay a 15$ monthly fine like Eve Online (that I played for years until I got fed up with the nondevelopment of the underlying technology). So in total, from a players point of view, you have optimal chances of playing an important role on a capital ship of your choice with the cheapest ticket available. If you buy an AMD R9 graphics card with the "never settle" promo, you get a Mustang AMD Edition and access to the universe and squadron 42 and even the Alpha and Beta stage for free! Now show me the extreme high quality Space Sim that enables you to do all that for less money then your internet connection costs you per month. And yes, I got reserves and disposable income I can use to buy ships, by now I've invested thousands of dollars (I'd rather not know the exact number, since that would indisputable prove my addiction with this game ). If you are interested in joining our chapter as an active member, you can use the test account Firedancer has set up with a free Aurora MR bound to it. If you have mumble you can join coop games starting mostly around 19:00 CEST most evenings with Firedancer and myself flying Hornets. So much fun! Even if I am accepted into the Star Citizen CoTP Org, my computer is garbage; I have troubles running KSP on the lowest quality settings. Running an AMD FX 8350 with 16 Gigs mem, dual crossfire R9 290 OC, Raid0 850 Pro SSD, and the loading times of game and sessions are still ridiculously slow, so you do need at least 800$ worth of hardware to run the game smoothly.
