  • Welcoming new members

    Recommended Posts

    Hi,

I see that we are getting new people to join our guild. I would like to point out that we as a guild need to make it more welcome for new members to be active with us. I understand that we all have a lot of things going on, but while I was able to play I notice a few new members and when they asked for help or info, They really did not get the help or info they where asking. I tried to help out when I was able to. but I know there are officers in the guild that could have help. To me being an officers in the guild means helping everyone out and there are times that it might interfere with your game play.  I am still learning the ropes in playing in FF14, but as a player and a member of this guild I try very hard to help out all who join us. A few of the new members feel shy and are trying to break into the click groups that we have. So please  remember to try to help out the new members of the guild and make if feel like they are among friends and family.

Saturday evening there was 2 new ones that were new. I believe the name was time something and the 2nd one I am not good at spelling names and will have to look them up when I get on the game tomorrow evening. But I am also pointing out for future new members.

I don't recall the new members. I know a couple of people that were knew were talking in chat and mumble, and we've always made it a point to welcome these players, and make sure they're comfortable, as well as not twisting arms if they don't think the FC is the right place for them.

Perhaps I was afk or something with the questions were asked...

But if you could, please notify an officer if you feel uncomfortable. Or, if you could, elaborate on these incidents you've noted.

    Thanks

I should also say that my ears are always open. If you feel uncomfortable with anything at all, please, please let me know. shoot me a message in the forums if I'm afk, or offline, even. And if you want my number, just ask.

I have unlimited texting and calling.

I'm not even sure that I want to entertain this with answer. I feel as though I've already covered this in Iris's goodbye address.

Yes, I am often absent from the game due to real life scheduling conflicts. I do show up on mumble from time to time to say hi or appear in game to do a dungeon or two, AFK for a few hours, then vanish.  I wish I could spend more time in game, but sadly, I cannot.

That being said, we've just promoted L'rcrata, Gammon and Asukai, all of whom I've known for quite some time. I can assure you that if someone asks a question, that one of these 3 would answer it immediately if they were available. Additionally, I am on sometimes myself, as are Arsenix and Kanami. Gynia has recently returned from a hiatus and L'hoa is on pretty often. That's 7 officers, which in my opinion is a fairly excessive amount. I refuse to believe that no one is helping if they were available.

I hear and see everything that goes on in this FC, even if I am not around. 8 members have my personal phone number. I get PMs daily with screen caps and constant updates and I am satisfied with the work the officers in this FC are doing. However, if you are dissatisfied with some of the leadership in the FC, I would recommend that you send me or Arsenix a private message rather than take it to public forum.

Just as an additional aside, I would like to quote a few lines from the guild charter:

VI. Help thine brothers and sisters of the Covenant of the Phoenix above all others

This applies to all members. So even if an officer is not around, I encourage anyone available to help when and where they can. Reality is, I can't enforce that all members be knowledgeable on all aspects of the game and may not be able to help any given specific circumstance.

    And of course my favorite:

XI. When thou hast given little to nothing, ask for little to nothing

This one applies to a lot of people we've had in the past who have made an attempt sully our name with cries of "we're not helpful."  We do try our best to make everyone comfortable, learn the game and have good time. While I wish I could be everywhere and do everything, I simply cannot. Within reason, members should consider searching for answers on their own via google or reddit. A lot of times what we seek is readily available by own our means with just a little bit of effort.

I normally avoid these posts, but this seems to be a recurring theme. I keep hearing and seeing people complain that this is a not a helpful FC. That is not true. I got a lot of help from the FC, and I try to repay the favor back as best I can. Despite what some people might think, or believe, I do not show favoritism when it comes to helping people. One day, Cornell asked for help with some lvl 50 dungeons so he could clear them for the first time and unlock roulettes. I helped in what limited time I had before work. I believe we managed to clear one or two dungeons in that time frame. That night or the next, I helped him camp a fate for his book, simply because he asked. The next night, a full FC party helped Cornell get the rest of his unlocks and clears that he had left to do. I know recently he has wanted to do MEX, and I will gladly join in and help if I'm present. The point of all this is, Cornell asked for help. A lot of times people say they asked, and while some might, take into consideration, that if they ask in FC text chat, in the middle of a dungeon/raid/large population zone like Mor Dhona, the text box can scroll rapidly, and things can get easily missed.

So if you cannot get a response in FC chat, send a tell to someone. When you send a /tell it makes a noise the receiving person can hear, and it draws there attention to it. For those that do not know, in game officers are rank Centurion and above, if I'm not mistaken. I can safely say that all of our officers use mumble, and can bridge the gap between the "mumble clique" and "non-mumble clique", so send them a tell. Reflecting on the last rant of this nature, Iris claimed she pleaded in both fc chat and /tells for help clearing a HM dungeon. I never received such a /tell nor did I ever see mention of it in FC chat. Typically, if I'm not in a dungeon, I'm usually staring at the chat box, and I see what is said, and if someone asks a question, I reply to the best of my ability. I'm not a master of this game. For certain information you would have to look to more veteran players like Miki, Gammon, Lho'a, Asukai, Arsenix, Soren (yes, people, I said Soren), Sainiku, L'rcrata, Blake, and a whole host of others.

Unless, I'm personally pressed for time and cannot aid you in a dungeon run, or do not meet the requirements needed to assist you, I'll do my best to inform someone who can assist you. I Jeepers near lost my job due to missed time because I enjoy this game so much, and this FC, to keep hearing people trash talk it like everyone here is a bunch of elitist snobs who care nothing for new members. And I particularly care even less when people trash talk the FC for their own selfish motivations (i.e. making a spectacle pleading for help, getting said help immediately, then making a melodramatic, hyped up exit the following morning, all because they're not the center of attention or some dumb crap.)

You want to see an FC that doesn't help people? I can name a few, but I won't disrespect this chapter in such a way. But I've been in an FC where I made a comment on a conversation between people, the conversation halted abruptly, after a minute pause, a person continued with "Anyway..." Another FC I asked for help, and they said sure, we'll get a group together in an hour. An hour later, the FC leader comes on, and goes "Who wants to do EX primals?" Guess what? Everyone who volunteered to help me went with the FC leader. If I come online, and for some reason, I ask for help, and deny you the help that was originally offered to you, send me a /tell, let me know that, and I'll make sure your goal is taken care of first. But people have to speak up, and use every tool available to them. There is a mumble on pc, on smart phones, probably tablets. There is the forums, and private messages. There is in game FC chat and a private /tell system. Alywind Blue spammed the forums looking for a static, and if I'm not mistaken, Asukai busted his hump getting him set up to run with a static.

And that is all I got to say on this. Oh, and please, if your going to trash the FC in such a misguided manner, do it in the private forums. At least one person had the decency to do that, and it didn't seem like he was around very long. Anyone who visits this website can read the public forums. You don't need to be a member. So I'm sure potential members will most certainly click on a thread entitled "Welcoming new members", just to read a tirade on how people here suck at being helpful, that is anything but true.

I'm usually around, and always up to help people. I love helping people. The only reason I haven't been around to help recently is because I have been busting my butt off with this new relic stuff. I'm the type of person that once I set my mind to it, I do it until it's done. I got it done. I'm more then happy to help anyone out, like Colbec and others have said, we can't always be around, and might be in the middle of something and can't respond right away. Unfortunately because of this game's wonderful system, you can't whisper a person while they're in a duty (dungeon, raid, battlegrounds etc.) I don't know why it's like that but it is.

We have a bridge night to clear most of the stuff that people want to get done, Lcrata runs that, I believe it's on.... Saturdays.  I have for the longest time been wanting to level up more classes with people as well as playing other games together. I just haven't had any luck.  My work schedule is kind of messing with my time too. I work from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (usually we've been flexing up to 4:30 p.m. because of holiday time peak, somedays we flex down an hour or 30 minutes too) Wed-Sun.

There was a time I wanted to do shiva extreme farming, most of the times no one was around to help out. So I didn't wait anymore, and I went and took the initiative and went and found clear/farming groups. Needless to say I got what I wanted to get done.

Mumble's an incredibly useful tool because you can talk to a person whenever and communicate directly with them instead of having to wait for them to type. Not everyone types as fast as I do which is 65 WPM from years of practice (still people faster than me  100WPM  dear god I'm surprised the keyboard doesn't light on fire!)

Point being, I'm usually around to help. If I'm not in game, I'm usually always in mumble. I'm not really doing anything but bsing around in game, running around doing nothing and jumping waiting for someone to say hey let's do this. I usually like to follow others. I've been told by some real life friends that I have good leadership qualities, but I put myself down about things like that and don't really pursue it. I could probably do pretty well if I'd take the time to learn what I need to do and know for said role.

I'm sorry you feel the way you do , I try to always be as nice as I can and as helpful as I can. My voice comes off as monotone/neutral. I just don't have a particular upbeat happy attitude. I can't change it anytime soon. I'm going through alot of stuff in my life and trying to change that, and I'm slowly getting there little by little. I'm taking it one step at a time. I'm proud of myself at all the things I've done with my life and all of the progress I've made and continue to make. I'm still learning alot of social skills because I hardly get out, so I don't particularly pick up on alot of social ques as good as others do, I'm getting better though. It's alot harder to also pick up on social ques because we're on the internet and only hear what we say, and see what we type. Body language is key along with communication.

As was said if you have a problem whisper someone and try to work it out privately or tell said person that might have offended you, hey can you stop this or I was offended by this. etc etc.

I'm sorry if I have offended you or anyone else in anyway recently or at all in the past. I'm trying to amend what I have done, and be a better person.

But seriously, Zakkaj, I understand the fact that you want to help, and that you were a leader in your previous chapter of Cotp.  But from my perspective, as the recruitment officer of our shard, we have good fun-loving people who in general want to help one another.  The only problem we really run into is a miscommunication between mumble and non-mumble people.  As long as those people in mumble read/post in fc chat we really don't have any issues.  Our chapter is thriving right now.  We're getting more recruits, better groups, stronger relationships.  We have at least one officer on at all times, day and night and under no circumstances do we ignore or refuse to help anyone on our team.

Thank you for being aware and trying to improve our chapter.  We appreciate it.  We're at the end of a transition period at the moment and I'm sure that you've seen some of our growing pains.  However, you are still new to the fc and I would recommend  taking a step back until you see the real ebb and flow of our fam.  Help is always appreciated.  Just take the time to learn a little more about us.

    ~Gammon.  Also a dog.

So much community love in this thread it brings a smile to my face. I feel like a lot of the officers have already beaten me to the punch on what needs to be said, I especially love Miki quoting the charter and Gammon being a dog. As always, we encourage welcoming new guildmates with open arms and by policy and in character always try to be as inclusive as possible among FC mates. We're all comrades or however you want to put it in this chapter and if we all help each other out it makes this community a great place simple as that :D

So from personal experience I've got to say that this FC is a really helping FC.  I've got help more times than I can think of from a lot of people.  If it wasnt for the help I would not be where I'm at now.  I'm one to pass it forward and give as much help as I can just like what I've got.  If it wasn't for Arsenix, L'rcrata, Blue, Shoawdhuf, Colbec, Trent, Rain, Gammon, Miki and many more that I'm probably forgetting.  But it upsets me that we get post saying that people are not getting help.  If someone sees that someone asked for help and they got no response maybe they could help out and ask someone for them.  Don't post something saying a couple of people asked for help and not offer to help them.  I know that if I'm not able to help someone because I don't have the content open I would try getting some FC people that do to help them.
