CotP Discord

Hi all,

 

Discord is generally known as another voice chat app, and it does well at that, especially being free. Aside from that, it works as a great text chat app. There are some great channels that are resources for classes and WoW overall that I know some of our members use (Wowhead, H2P, etc).

 

My question is, would we be able to make an official Discord channel for our WoW chapter? It would be for those of us who think about the game at all hours and would like to chat about it, but can't play the game at that moment. It is another way for the guild to keep in touch and share info. 

 

Discord runs great in a browser, on mobile, and as a dedicated PC app. Voice is always there as a free backup or additional option if CotP ever needed free alternatives to Mumble.

 

My next question is, does CotP already have an overarching Discord channel?

 

If this is something we are interested in, I am willing to help set it up and moderate since I would be in it almost everyday.

CotP as a guild does not have one for the whole guild, but I know of at least one other chapter that uses Discord for text comms. The voice side is disabled. If there is enough interest, it's something we can look at setting up.

Azog had made one that was meant to be for the guild as a whole, and it was active for a while, but not anymore.

 

There are about two BDO ones that are both active.

 

FFXIV has one that is very active and they use it for text and voice, since it's easier for them who play on mobile.

 

I hope we could all integrate soon.

I was under the impression that the one Azog made is also one of the BDO ones, and was used almost exclusively by the BDO chapter. 

I personally think a guild wide discord is redundant sense we have the forums and mumble. A can see a value in individual chapters, such as FFX, like you said.  
But if the wow player base want to use one, I don't see why we could not set one up.

A wow chapter discord sounds like a great idea. I'm not too familiar with discord but I know some of our members have spoken about it before.

 

If this is something that you would like to do shadowbang, that would be great.

 

What do you need to get it set up? I am happy to help out where I can.

Yeah he made two, one primarily for BDO then another that I assume he meant for the entire guild, due to the different channels.

 

Don't get me wrong though, I'm all for all the different chapters having and using Discord, but so many different chapters using separate ones, seems like it'd be more beneficial and unifying to have a single one with multiple channels and optional voice comms for our various chapters. One of the great things I love about this community and our Mumble server is that we can see and hop between our different chapter channels and easily get more info or whatever on different games. I don't see it as redundant since I am often on mobile and can't access Mumble, but not everyone uses the forums.

 

But yeah, I'm definitely not encouraging against this, I hope you didn't take it that way.

The BDO Discord is going to be converted to the guild wide Discord later this week.  However, I am in agreement with Cair, in that we already have mumble (voice) and the forums for chatting.
