  • Raiding ARR

    Recommended Posts

I just finished the vanilla story and am heading feet first into HW. So far I have been able to clear standard/hard dungeons without any significant issues, lvl 60 with ilvl 260 gear (insta 60 MNK). I am planning on doing some of the extreme dungeons this upcoming week to get a feel for it..

I am working on getting ACT installed, and working on my rotations. Am I setting myself up for failure with the positioning requirements for MNK in raids? I have watched some of the vids that are on our forums here and see that you are all over the place. MNK seems to be plenty powerful if I can maintain Greased Lightning stacks but that is solely based on keep hitting things from behind.

Also, I know all of you are doing the new content, but are there still runs that will be on the old stuff too? Since I am pretty much still a newb and want to try out raiding in this game, just wanted to know if I should focus on clearing the new content first before expecting to raid.

Side question: With the level cap increase, do the older raids scale up with the level cap or do they down-sync to the predefined levels?

There are plenty of things that I can do besides raiding since I still have loads of leveling to do, but I enjoy raiding more than anything.

The old raids have the ability to be synced-forcing you to run them at the level intended; however, they also have the ability to run them unsynced so they can be cleared as the cap. Old raids will usually be done unsynced, since few want to plunge through progression with old content when they're overgeared at their cap anyway.

Running old content, however, does happen. There is a book WT/Wondrous Tales (weekly quest) that has you run through various content, PF or FC is a good way to get small groups for it (as unsynced doesn't really need full parties on most things). There is also what the FC calls "Bridge Night"-- This is when people help clear older/less current content for other--unsynced is normal but synced stuff too. While the night hasn't had a specific time of when the FC runs it; if you ask and there is enough people on that are able/not raiding at the time, it usually happens. If not, most will try to help you out soon as they can.

As to Focus on story before raiding. the SB raid will likely be gated behind the completion of the 4.0 storyline; as I know ARR's was and think HW was. So clearing story asap will help a great deal and start preparing you for raiding.

if you've more questions ask me on this topic or on discord; will do what I can to answer :D

Before Stormblood MNK was not favored in end game raiding because even though their single target damage was the high, they did not offer ANY raid utility to boost the rest of the party. It wasn't impossible to find a group, but certainly harder than it was for other melee classes. Positioning was not as big of an issue because boss up time was generally high in raid, and maintaining stacks between mechanics was tricky but manageable. They attempted to change all of that with the SB updates, but from what I am hearing the changes hurt MNK more than it helped. So my guess is that MNK will have just as much, if not more, trouble in the upcoming tier. Red, Von'schweets, Cornell or Kindrec (Bloodknight in discord) would probably be able to explain the changes better.

As far as the old stuff, we aren't currently scheduling any clear nights for old content since so many are pushing to get ready for the new savage raids which launch in a little over three weeks. If the demand is there, we plan on bringing Bridge Night (clear all the things night) back after the raid has launched and everyone has settled in. In the meantime, my best advice would be to either ask for help in FC chat or keep an eye out for WT / Wondrous Tails parties in party finder. These parties are focused on quick kills to complete the objectives for the weekly WT book. These parties generally appreciate new players for their bonus which is also a benefit for the WT book.

I would focus on the story and getting to the new raid tier since there really is no benefit to doing the older stuff, even for raid practice as the difficulty ceiling is pretty low.

There are 3 options when queuing for the older content:

     - Standard queue: Syncs down to the original level of the content. I cant remember if the gear item level is capped or not, but if it is it is still pretty high so completing these is still pretty easy compared to what it was when each of them came out. Apparently drop rates on things like music are higher in this mode, but people rarely queue this way anymore. This is the mode you will get from Duty finder and typically only filled with new players that aren't aware of the other modes of queuing. These parties are generally pretty trappy since no one that isn't new ever queues this way.

    - Unsynced / Undersized parties: This allows a party to queue and ignore any item or level caps and full party requirements. Most of the ARR primals can be completed easily with 3 or 4 people in this mode, as little as 1 solo person. This is how most people queue for old content.

     - Minimum item level: This sync down the original level AND the original minimum ilvl to enter the instance. This is the hardest possible mode. No one really does this. We have had some people interested in doing this for the challenge of it, but I would imagine it would be difficult to do this now with so many new things to do.

Long story short, the old stuff probably won't give you the challenge you are looking for and you have enough time to be ready for the next tier coming up if you want a challenge. All of the FC raid groups are currently full but we are looking for someone to lead another group. Not clearing the previous stuff shouldn't hold you back as long as you have your rotation down / can maintain high DPS and have generally good raid awareness

Hey Rashin! We have plenty of people that still want to raid that do not have a raid group, or did not fit into our current raid group times, so if you are interested in raiding, or leading a raid group let me know! Send me a message here, reply to the raid link,((http://www.covenantofthephoenix.com/forums/topic/51481-raiding-40-interested-apply-within/)),  or shoot me a message in discord on what jobs, (if other than MNK, I think most FC groups will not have an issue with taking a monk :D we had one ourselves) and your timeslot preferred so i can put you on our spreadsheet! :D

I think for the most part I was hoping for a non-static group to just try things out since my work schedule prevents me from committing to a set day/time. Since I am only versed in SWTOR I thought maybe there was ad-hoc raiding that went on in the FC. Not a bid deal though. From what it looks like I still have a ways to go for gearing before I am raid ready. My DPS at ilvl 294 avg is not looking so good at about 2.5k with burst at about 3.2k on MNK if I blow all my off GCDs on opener. I am thinking that I will have to put my nose to the grindstone and get a ranged DPS up that can get in some utility and more time on boss. Like BRD/MCH/maaaaaybe DRG.

    You can insta 60 now?

Yes, as well as story-jump. $25 for job jump to 60, include gear and 300k gil, completes all job quests to 60.

A Realm reborn story jump is $18 and puts you are the beginning of the Heavensward story. $25 to skip ARR and HW.
