Ganeral PvP / Warzone Info
Before we go into the specifics, here are a few general notes about PvP Warzones in SWTOR:

  • At this time, you cannot choose one specific Warzone to queue for. The Warzone Queue is completely random as to which of the 3 Warzones you will end up in.

  • Huttball PvP matches can be either cross-faction or within-faction, meaning that you will face either Republic or Empire forces. No cross-server at this time.

  • All Civil War (Alderaan) and Void Star PvP matches are cross-faction, meaning that it is always Imperial vs. Republic. No cross-server at this time.

  • All PvP actions reward you with "Valor" points. At this point Valor is only used to grant you Titles at certain Valor EXP levels and unlock higher level PvP gear.

  • There are only two "tiers" for Warzones. 1-49 and 50-50. Thus, a level 10 player will be thrown into the same match as a level 49 player.

  • Levels are "balanced" for Warzones in terms of health, damage, and ability levels. However, lvl 45+ characters have a massive advantage currently for obvious gear and available ability reasons.

  • Whether your team wins or loses, you are rewarded with "Warzone Commendations" depending on how well you did. Use these to buy PvP Gear. Each MVP vote you receive = +1 commendation.

  • Warzone Commendations can be exchanged for "Mercenary Commendations", which are used for purchasing higher level PvP Gear.

  • You can only carry a limit of 1,000 Commendations at any time, so use them before you max out! Note that you can buy items before you are eligible to use them.

  • The stat "Expertise" is the overall PvP stat in SWTOR. It affects damage, healing, and defense regarding all players in PvP. It has no impact in PvE.

  • Any "Taunt" abilities have the special effect in PvP of lowering an enemy players damage output if they are not targeting you.

  • Warzone Medals convert to 50 Valor and 5 Warzone Commendations (per medal) at the end of each match.

Warzone Types
There are currently 3 released Warzones for instanced-PvP in SWTOR. They are as follows:

- Huttball
  • Similar to a "Capture The Flag" match, Huttball is a game of taking the ball to the enemy team's side to score a goal.
  • Victory condition is based 100% on goals / scores. Tie-breaker goes to whichever team is holding the ball when time runs out.
  • Games last 15 minutes, or until one team scores 6 goals.
  • Most commonly played Warzone due to current "random" assignment of Warzones.

- Alderaan "Civil War"
  • The Alderaan Warzone is classified as a "Domination" match, based on controlling the 3 turret points in the middle of the map.
  • Victory condition is based on your controlled turrets destroying the enemy ship.
  • Each turret you control does 5 damage to the enemy. Thus if you control 2 turrets you would be doing 10 damage per tick to the enemy ship.
  • This Warzone has no respawn timer. The only negative to dying is the time taken in getting back to the fight.
  • Official match time limit is 15 minutes, but no games ever last that long.

- Voidstar
  • The Voidstar Warzone is an "Assault" game, where the goal is to either defend or attack the objectives for each round.
  • This Warzone is unique in that it has two distinct rounds - Attacking and Defending.
  • The victory condition of Voidstar is based on time. You need to conquer as many objectives as possible on the Attack phase, while defending as long as possible on the Defense phase. The winning team is whichever team can hold out the longest against the Attackers.
  • The time limit for each Defend and Attack round is 7 1/2 minutes.

Warzone Medals
Medals are obtained during a PvP Warzone match, and the final tally is shown to you on the score screen after the match is over. Below I have listed the possible medals and how to get them:

Offensive Medals:
  • Demolisher - 2.5k Damage Single hit
  • Combatant - 75k Damage Dealt
  • Destroyer - 300k Damage Dealt
  • Commando - 10 Kills
  • Soldier - 25 Kills
  • Quick Draw - 1 Killing Blow
  • Assassin - 1 Solo Kill

Defensive Medals:
  • Shield - 5k Defense
  • Protector - 50k Defense
  • Guardian - 2k Defense in 1 Life (without dying)
  • Paladin - 10k Defense in 1 Life (without dying)
  • Defender - 1k Defender Points
  • Warden - 3k Defender Points
  • Healer - 75k Healed
  • Savior - 300k Healed
  • Medic - 2.5k Single Heal
  • Trauma Surgeon - 5k Single Heal

While healing and offensive medals are self explanatory - the "Defense" and "Defender" medals are a bit more complicated. You are granted defense points for various tasks during the match. Here are the confirmed ways of obtaining "Defense" points in Warzone PvP:
  • During any match, either using a "Guard" ability on an ally or using a "Taunt" ability on an enemy player.
  • During an Alderaan match, standing/fighting next to any of the turret points that your team currently controls.
  • During the Defend phase of a Voidstar match, standing/fighting near any of the objectives (such as a locked door).
  • Contrary to popular belief, Healing does not grant you Defense points.

Valor Titles
  • Valor Level 10 = Skirmisher
  • Valor Level 20 = Duelist
  • Valor Level 30 = Gladiator
  • Valor Level 40 = Centurion
  • Valor Level 50 = Champion
  • Valor Level 60 = Battlemaster
  • Valor Level 70 = War Hero
  • Valor Level 80 = Conqueror
  • Valor Level 90 = Warlord
  • Valor Level 100 = Elite Warlord

I hope this guide helps with any PvP questions you had, but please feel free to ask any time if you have additional questions not mentioned here. We can always update the guide as need be.
Enjoy!
