Description: This tutorial talks about the basic aspects of getting the different sets of PvP gear in SWTOR.

I've been doing some reading about PvP gear and how it works, now that I'm 50. I'm sure many of you already know this stuff, but I wanted to post the basics of PvP gear grinding. I hope you find this information useful.

Errata and the boring details:

The PvP gear sets have four different tiers. Three of those tiers are for level 50 characters. There are also 4 different gears vendors for each class, and each PvP Gear Vendor has two sets of gear, one for each specialization class. This means there 16 different PvP gear vendors in fleet, 4 for each tier multiplied by 4 for each class. Within these vendors there are 32 different gear sets, 24 of them for level 50 characters. The gear is purchased with the 5 different types of PvP Commendations. getting these commendations happen in different ways. This can be a bit complicated at first. So now I get to the useful information, here are the different tiers of gear:

PvP Gear vendors

These vendors are located in different areas I am told. The area that I'm sure of is on fleet. They are located on the outside ring of the station, across from the class trainers on the same side as the PvP quest terminal. They are grouped into 4 areas with each area for each class. There are 4 vendors in each area.

  • PvP Gear Vendors: There are 4 of these. They contain level 20 and level 40 PvP gear. You can purchase these items with Warzone Commendations. The level 20 or 40 set can be purchased for about 1,200 commendations. I would recommend saving your commendations for level 50 though.
  • PvP Centurion Gear Vendors: These four vendors each contain 2 sets of the lowest tier gear. One is for each specialized class. You will need Centurion Commendations to purchase this gear. More on acquiring these commendations later.
  • PvP Champion Gear Vendors: These four vendors each contain 2 sets of the mid tier gear. One for each specialized class. You will need Champion Commendations or Champion Gear Tokens to purchase these gear items. More on acquiring these commendations and tokens later.
  • PvP Battlemaster Gear Vendors: These four vendors each contain 2 sets of the highest tier gear. One set is for each specialized class. You will need Battlemaster Commendations to purchase this gear. More on acquiring these commendations below.

PvP Commendations and Tokens

PvP Commendations are acquired in different ways. The following is a list of the different types and how to get them:

  • Warzone Commendations: These are only acquired by participating in warzones. You get more if your side wins the fight, and according to how well you do in the fight. You cannot store more that 1000 of these commendations, so convert the extra to Mercenary Commendations at the PvP item vendor for storage for later use. More on this as we go.
  • Mercenary Commendations: These are earned in open world PvP, found in chests within the Outlaws Den FFA PvP area on Tatooine and can be purchased from the PvP item vendor. More on this important vendor later. The cost at the PvP item vendor is 10 Mercenary Commendations for 30 Warzone Commendations.
  • Centurion Commendations: These are received from Champion Bags. These bags are received from PvP quests sometimes, or purchased from the PvP item vendor. The cost is 200 Warzone Commendations and 200 Mercenary Commendations. You can purchase the Mercenary Commendations also from the PvP item vendor at the cost of 10 Mercenary Commendations for 30 Warzone Commendations. This means each Champion Bag can be purchased for 800 Warzone Commendations.
  • Champion Commendations: These are also received from Champion Bags. The amount of each commendation you receive, or tokens, is random.
  • Champion Tokens: I haven't received one of these yet, but if you do, you can turn each of them in for a piece of PvP Champion Gear. They drop from Champion Bags.
  • Battlemaster Commendations: These are received from Battlemaster Bags. These bags are acquired as rewards from PvP quests only. The bags can drop a random amount of Battlemaster Commendations or tokens.

PvP Item vendors

It is at these vendors that you can purchase the Champion Bags and the Mercenary Commendations mentioned above. They are located in each warzone I am told. I know for sure however that there is one just to the left of the PvP quest terminal and mission dropbox in fleet.

Putting it all Together

  • Get warzone quests.
  • Do warzones. Try to win :)
  • Go to the PvP item vendor and purchase Mercenary Commendations so that you have an even amount of those commendations and the warzone Commendation.
  • Purchase Champion Bags from the vendor for 200 Warzone Commendations and 200 Mercenary Commendations.
  • Open the bags.
  • Go to your class PvP vendor area.
  • Purchase your PvP gear.

Sample Gear

Hopefully this will give you an idea of the quality of the gear. I gypped these from almarsguides.com which was one of the sites I read.

Conclusion

If you have gotten this far through my wall of text, I salute you! The PvP gear is a great way to start off well geared for raids. Plus it is certainly great for PvP. I encourage all of you to group up for warzones, and brave forays to Illum or Outlaw's Den for the necessary commendations.
